One of the Best Gynacs in Powai: Dr. Anita Soni

All women need to go to a Gynac sooner or later. So, if you are searching for a Gynac in Powai, one of them is Dr. Anita Soni (M.D., D.N.B., F.C.P.S., D.G.O.) Full time Obseteterics & Gynaecology Consultant at Hiranandani Hospital.

After trying others, I personally decided to go to her.

I have been going to her for quite some time now and have found her to be a thorough professional and one of the best gynecologist  in Powai.

Below are the reviews from some of Parenting in Powai readers to help you take a more prudent decision.

What about her constant phone calls when she is attending to you?
that irritates me. having visited only once guess i have to eat it

Nidhi said...

I have visited her a couple of times and during the visits she did not get constant phone calls. Guess, it was just your lucky day. Anyways, if it does bother you, you could also visit Dr.Padma Ramakrishnan in Powai.

Anonymous said...

Will take my comments(about phone calls) back. As i am finding it easier to talk to her on phone(for small questions) instead of having to visit the hospital.

Nidhi said...

Hey...Agree with you. sometimes clarifying a small / single thing over the phone is so much easier than going there and waiting every time. Glad to know its working out for you. :)

Hi,

looks to me there are mixed reviews for Dr Soni. Well, I am getting my delivery done by Dr Vanita Raut at Hiranandani itself. Shes pretty calm n composed. But, unlike Dr Soni, she doesnt share her cell number which is a drawback. Its hard to reach her and for every small little thing, we have to make a visit. But, otherwise, I have had bad experience with Dr Soni in the past. Any reviews on Dr Raut??

Hi,

Firstly, thank you all for sharing your experiences with Dr. Soni.

Would request the readers to share how their experience with Dr. Padma has been, in terms of approach, professionalism, etc.

Thanks
SN.

Dr. Soni what a dynamic personality. She is a Gem & we should appreciate. V r lucky that she is near to us. She is very talented & excellent in her job. She has patients from all over the world.

I was referred by one of our relative. She is excellent in getting normal deliveries.

My sister in law had lot of issues. She visited many other hospital. Finally when she visited Dr. Soni, She herself felt she is in safe hands. There were so many complications but Dr. Anita Soni got delivery in 7 months that too normal. WOW..... In today's time where normal deliveries were vanishing, Dr. Soni had always given the best numbers of normal deliveries.

I had a pregnancy problem. 2 years ago & had miscarriage. I & my husband went to her when I was bleeding badly. The way case was handled is absolutely marvellous. Whenever I required assistant she has provided. She gives excellent phone support at 11 pm too.

I dont have my parents & no one from in-laws but the way I was taken care by her as if She is actually our guardian. I & husband had tears & prayed to God for giving Dr. Soni.

World is made of mix people Good & Bad. She is best & doing her duty absolutely perfect.

Once my relative was admitted in hiranandani hospital at 2 AM & at that time I saw Dr. Soni. I asked her that Doc do You work so late. She said 'If my patient requires me I had, m & will always come'.

Agreed that during pregnancy people have lot tension but You should not write anything wrong about a person whom You dont know. She could have rushed due to emergency. What if She is sitting opposite to YOu & there is an emergency. Baby might die, or patient requires her presence for some high severity. Don't You think you will prioritize that someone else require more attention than You. Please remember Emergency doesn't come saying " Hey I will come at so & so time'. Emergencies just arrive.

She treats every patient same wheter You are rich or poor.

I m going ahead for family & will again go to Dr. Soni. I vote for Dr. Soni. If You ask me how much to rate of 5, I will rate her 5 out of 5.

After reading a lot about Dr Salvi , we decided to go to her at Seven Hills and ignore Dr. Soni , other reasons for giving dr soni a miss were the scary reviews and bad reputation of the hospital , which just wants to mint money. Now moving on to our experience with Dr salvi.

We have had 3 visits to Dr salvi and none of them were satisfying , the longest of them probably lasted for 7 minutes and in rest of the cases may be a minute or two. She has got lot of fame off late and is obvoiusly known as a good doctor in Bombay but she is not easily accessible once your visit is done , but her assistants are. I really wonder , does this happen to every one or its just us who are left no where after every visit as it seems to be incomplete. She seems to be too busy with a lot of other work and always has tons of patients waiting. From my personal experience , she is too over booked and probably seven hills runs on her name today , good for seven hills bad for patients as they are not able to give what they are supposed to give to the patients.

Since she is not present while ,ultrasound and other tests are done , one expects her to have a look at the reports which She just glances in seconds. Any normal human being can just read the title of the report in that duration. A lot of negatives makes us wonder on our decision and here a few . Reply with your experiences

Negatives
1) She will always come late , just like every other doctor. DOnt know , but she has working hours from 10-7 . Dont expect her to be there before 11 and yes you will see her missing before 7.

2) For every other test you have to go all the way to that place i.e. Marol and get the reports collected in a day or two. Getting a appointment back with the doctor is not a easy thing , expect a week's waiting easily

3)Nothing works smoothly in seven hills , Seven hills is a chaotic hospital , too much of stress in getting your reports , appointments and payments ..... Just way too understaffed. Every other step kills in your 30 mins. All our visits lasted close to 2-3 hours , of which the interaction with doctors were may be just 5 minutes. Go to diagnostics and you will find some one or the other giving a dose to the employees on how to work and how it should work. Feel sorry for those guys , they are just too understaffed and hence it sucks even more.

4)After, every visit you are hit by a big question. What are we upto do we do , change the doctor or just hang on. May be it will be a better visit next time

Positives
1) She is quite friendly , but rarely does she gives you enough time to speak cos she has a lot of other work to do, running here and there easily , dont know why ?

The world says she is one of the best doctors , but may be, she is too occupied for everyone and hence definitely is not the best for most of us.

Conclusion : - She is a good doctor is what most of us heard , May be she is but definately is not giving what she should be giving to the patients . That hospital checks your patience level at every other step which is even more frustrating. And yes , just one positive she knows how to talk with patients and always has a smile on the face but that is what most of us dont really look for in a Gynac.

Do let us know if you had the same experience with Dr Salvi

Very fortunately for me, Dr. Soni was diligent in taking my history/symptoms and based on that, a proper treatment was given for 3 months ,when I had problem conceiving. I had visited lot of other hospitals but I didnt get any solution. Finally, I found a gud doctor. She was very friendly and supported me as i was in deep pain becoz i had couple of miscarriages earlier and was scared.

Now I am proud & happy mother of a baby boy with normal delivery

I would strongly recommend Dr. Soni for any Gync problem

Anonymous said...

dr vanita raut, I have not had a good experience with her. Whenever I requested to try for normal delivery, she said it is in my hand and I should excercise. I was quite active through out and practised excercises taught by physiotherapist in hospital. On the due date I was told to admit else it will not be good for baby. After admission, I was told that baby is in distress and they hv to go for c-sec. At OT, I was told that umbilical cord was wrapped twice around neck. Didnt they know of it in advance even after multiple ultrasounds performed? I would have been mentally prepared for c-sec if I was told in advance about it and not at OT.
At last I am fine since baby and me are doing fine.

Hi Friends!

Nidhi : Nice blog. Keep up the good work

I am really sad to see so many negative comments for Dr. Soni.I must say she is a very efficient and good doctor who knows her job well.

I have delivered my 2nd kid at the age of 36 under Dr. Soni' care.I had some issues conceiving and Dr. Soni very diligently and efficiently helped me conceive. Also in 16 weeks of pregnancy I developed a complication but under her care I was back to work after 2-3weeks of rest and medication. Finally I had Normal delivery and gave birth to a healthy baby.

Initially even I felt she was not giving me enough attention and I should change the doctor. But her efficiency drove those fears away.

Agreed she is very curt, doesn't prompt you to ask questions if you don't have any, tells you things on your face, is in a hurry to attend the next patient etc: However she will never neglect you if you have any complications/ worries and need extensive consultation.

However, its a choice one has to make between an efficient & knowledgable doctor and a doctor who is sweet to you. Ofcourse if you have a doctor who can do both then thats an ideal situation :)

Hi Samita,

CONGRATS & Thanks for sharing your experience, and glad that you like the blog. If you need any info. I would be glad to be of help.

I myself am in my 14th week of pregnancy and have been going to Dr. Anita Soni for over a year now.

My personal experience with her has always been great wherein she has been cheerful, positive, encouraging and supportive. She has given time to provide required information, answer all my list of questions and ease my doubts.

In fact, I definitely plan on writing an article on my first hand experience (about this pregnancy) with her. According to me she is truly one of the best doctors in Powai who works on providing solutions.

Overall, I would rate her 5 out of 5 and highly recommend her.

Take Care
Nidhi

Hi Pooja,

I feel, A patient and a doctor relationship finally boils down to the mutual comfort level, thought process, understanding and most importantly trust.

If you feel that you have that with your doc. then please do continue with her. If not then you can try someone else, get a second opinion and see if that works for you. Thankfully in India we do have a choice.
Hope the above helps. :)

Hi Nidhi,

Congrats to U too. Really happy to hear that we are in same boat.

Missed a chance to see U. Came to know that I moved out of Anita's cabin & U stepped in. Didn't got a chance to meet U.

Unfortunately I had a severe fever & was admitted to Hiranandani hospital for 5 days on the same day.

Luckily I was under Dr. Soni's assistance & was picked up immediately. She didnt took a chance of 1 percent chance also.

My condition was very bad fever shooting to 101 & above.

Her medicines & experience worked out.

This all fever happened when I missed out dinking boiled water & went on regular Purified water.

Got discharged on Sunday.

but yes I am back in action, all issues like nausea etc are also resolved.

When i was struggling in fever my baby was moving fine.

Thanks to Dr. Soni.

We are so lucky that Dr. Soni is in Powai.

Please take care of Your health also.

Hope You & your baby are fine. I will pray for both.

Please be in touch & once again sorry to reply U after so many days.

Bye

Samita

has anyone benefitted from a fertility treatment from Dr Anita Soni? I have received mixed reactions from people regarding Anita Soni Please advise. I am TTC and looking for a good fertility doctor in powai

Hi

I am due in June and under Dr raut she is an extremely warm and a humble doctor.
She has advised me the major and minor things related to pregnancy as its my 1 st time and though I am a doctor myself she does expect me to have a common idea about my body changes and problems.
She guides you well and doesn't force you to go against your will at delivery .
My friends have told me dr soni is a c-sec specialist and I don't want dr raut to get into conclusions.
I suggest all the expecting moms should go through medical updates and few good websites to find answer to our queries.
And dr raut does see her patients in her highest busy schedule.

Dr. Kiran Coelho of THE lilavati hospital was my chosen doctor has am referrig to few other drs. from the same hospital. I was 12 weeks pregnant and went to her to looted of my money as her consulting fee is 1500. She referred me to another dr Natrajan of Nanavati who took the same fee and was of no use as he just told me the complications i will face which Dr. Kiran had informed me. Nevertheless, I took the printout from Dr. Natrajan and went to her next day as she confirmed she would not charge me her fee but to my surprize she charge me 800 again. Left a bad taste. I has to abort my child as I am a Rhemotoid Arthrities patient of 38 and was on Methotraxate which never helps baby develop and my fetus had stop growing and I was spotting hence had to abort via a tab. This was done in March 2013

I read few doctors and now am not feeling too good to visit them since am trying to conceive again so wanted to know if anybody has a review of Dr. Padma Ramakrishnan. Any review will be of help to me :)

Thank you :)

Another fantastic gynac in Powai is Dr Jyothirmayee Bajana. Very cool, composed and absolutely bang-on when it comes to diagnosis. even in risky situations she makes her point and ensures the patient realizes the importance of taking it slow without freaking you out. I have had a high risk pregnancy and she ensured all went well without a hitch. Very friendly and incase you want to know more about your condition she patiently answers all your queries..at times also explaining it with a diagram.
Having been treated by her for a repetitive v-infection 4 yrs ago and a risky pregnancy last year, I would definitely recommend her to anyone wanting a good gynac.

We had our experience with Dr Vanita Raut and what a gem of a person she is in addition to being a great doctor. My wife was pregnant when we were in the US and we had consulted her earlier. She used to take our calls from US and guide (was my wife's first pregnancy). Very calm and composed and will provide the right direction. Highly recommend.

Hi,
Thanks for this very useful blog. I stumbled upon this while searching for reviews on Dr Vanita Raut and Dr Anita Soni. I am yet to consult any of these docs as I just got the confirmation that I am pregnant.
Dr Anit Soni's appointment seems to be hard to get and she seems to be a very busy doctor, but I guess most docs these days are. Finally got an appointment with Dr Vanita Raut for tomorrow morning. However, after going to multiple searches for doctors - seven hills, surya mother n child, cloud 9 etc etc... this blog helped a great deal to nail an appointment with Dr Raut at Hiranandani. However My experience at Hiranandani so far hasnt been that great. The billing queue is long and so is the receiving report queue.. they could do with few more systems and staff members, considering such a rich hospital; can spend few buck on basic requirements.

Thanks again. Will keep you posted about my experience with Dr Raut.

Anonymous said...

I quite agree with TC... About the limited staff & long billing queue @ hirandani (a 'rich' hospital).
I have just started with Dr. Raut And We intend to continue with her. I understand and hope she is good for normal deliveries, Any further info or feedback about her is welcome though.
Any1.. Any idea about the pre natal yoga sessions conducted @ Hiranandani? Or then any other pregnancy exercise classes or Lamaze classes etc. In Powai? Such info would be really useful..... Specially with rains these days.... & so the limited scope of walking outdoors.

Looks like, Seems all are promoting hiranandani..just hope that all are genuine..pls dont mind its just a feel...and hope this post is displayed to all and not just to me or few..

When we moved to Mumbai about a year back, we discovered that we were about to have a new addition to the family. Being first timers, these were anxious and complicated times for us. Luckily a good friend suggested Dr. Soni to us and we have not looked back since.

She is a balance between professionalism, sharpness, skillfulness and care and friendliness. At first, her shorter consultation time did irk us, but then we realized that this changed as the Dr. realized that we were not out ‘window shopping’.

A gem of a person, Dr. Soni insists on going the natural way and may come across as rude or arrogant to some. She explained us the basics and made us realize that pregnancy is not a disease and has to be savored than dreaded. For those who want their Dr. to prescribe endless medications, tests, fancy fitness classes and pilates and zumbas, she might come as a ‘let down’. She insists on doing tasks at home, usual squats and chores to prepare the body and the mind. She is not one to pamper and soothe the softer souls who are looking for a shoulder to cry on. She suggests parents to ‘man-up’ and walks her talk.

Her integrity was clear when she advised us against stem cell bank which is largely a sham. The hospital staff and facilities were very good and we had no challenges at any given time. The Dr’s diagnosis, prescription and suggestions were top notch and we never ever had second thoughts.

On the day of delivery, she was leading from the front, taking the right decisions, standing on one foot, early at 5 AM and her team was engaged at 200% efficiency. Thanks to Dr. Soni, my wife had a smooth and normal delivery and she could resume normal work within 24 hours. We are thankful to her, like many others before and after us.
